After a long time in the wilderness it’s great to see David Holmes making a return – this time in a solo capacity and with material he’s been developing for the last decade or so. ‘I Heard Wonders’ is a change of direction, taking in more than a few shoegaze influences for a single that’s enjoyably woozy in its touches of psychedelica, with the breathy vocal fitting perfectly. At first it might sound a bit vague, but give it a few listens and you won’t be able to shake it off, with the humid atmospherics irresistible. As if that weren’t enough there’s an Andy Weatherall remix that preys on the track’s spacious qualities, opening up a load more electronic possibilities. Great to have him back.
