DJ DOWNFALL
SINKING INTO QUAGMIRE
WHERE IT’S AT IS WHERE YOU ARE

Two very distinct releases from the mighty Rick-Tick stable.  The Five Corners Quintet is the second in a series of remix EPs that sees their brand of dancefloor jazz repackaged for different ears.  “Before We Say Goodbye” is remade by Jori Hulkkonen under an archly sweeping disco gaze, Mark Murphy’s deep male chords suddenly transplanted into another world, somewhere between Depech Mode’s electronic moods and The The’s funkier work.  A future electronic anthem? You bet.  “Lighthouse” is given a mellow house groove to drive it along nicely by DJ Mitsu the Beats (watch for the piano midway through), leaving Tuomas Kallio to tinker with “Trading Eights”, in a distinctly 80’s punk-funk manner.  Meanwhile, Timo Lassy’s “The Call” is more in line with what the Finnish label is known for – outstanding club music for the jazzier dancefloors.
