The Cure’s 80’s pop classic “Love Cats” is the basis for Japan’s West/Rock/Woods first UK release. You’ll surely know the original song, and even if you don’t, it should become instantly recognisable the moment that bassline comes in. The trio manage to give it a completely different slant without falling into dinner jazz mode, as full-on percussion drives it forward, and the piano workout is something else – a truly wild jazz ride from start to finish. Their original composition, “Tetrahedron”, is a mellower piano and bass led workout that moves just fine. Another limited vinyl release from the ever on-form Mukatsuku label.
