HASHIM
AL-NAAFIYSH (THE SOUL) (SI BEGG REMIX)
THE ELECTRO PROJECTS

The under-the-counter re-blend / re-edit / remix genre is a flourishing cottage industry right now, but there’s always room for more when it’s bringing something new to the cutting table, such as this new label, which aims to add a modern twist to certified classics. First up, Si Begg takes on Hashim’s electro b-boy classic “Al Naafiysh (The Soul)”, toughening up the beats and adding his signature stuttery, jittery vibe, but keeping the flow of the original (along with the recognisable riffs that made it classic in the first place – always a good thing).  Next, the hardest working remixer in London, Yam Who? delivers two versions of Tom Tom Club’s timeless “Genius Of Love”, the main mix bumping the tempo up and making it a bit fatter sounding, extending here and there to maximum effect.  There’s also a nicely mellowed out version for those Sunday afternoon sessions.  Respectful, and respectable, updates on two bonafide club essentials – great way to kick off a label.
