Luke Solomon’s debut album always promised to be something special, and The Difference Engine delivers to live up to the hype. He has a way of subtlety with electronic sounds and loops, brushed with colour when complemented by lazy trumpet and fluid cello and flute lines. Each track is segued together continuously so that the record unfolds gradually, a chance to appreciate Solomon’s well constructed beats and almost imperceptibly changing loops. Keeping the foot tapping and the head thinking, it’s a record that works on several levels and confirms Solomon as a real talent.
