Maradona’s in the news a lot at the moment. When he’s not puffing on a Havana in his hotel room and getting all the Chelsea squad out of bed for a fire alarm, he’s receiving dedications from the likes of Manu Chao, who wrote ‘La Vida Tombola’ about him. It’s a keenly sung song, not perhaps as outgoing as you might think, and a bit more thoughtful in the way it comes across. The B-side, a BBC session recording of the track, is more emotive still. The way Chao sings, however, brings a love of the flair that we’ve always associated with Maradona, even though some of us are still finding it difficult to move on from the 1986 ‘Hand of God’!
