The Part-Time Heroes are a busy pair – performances The Big Chill, remixes for Citizen Cope, MJ Cole, Yungun, Monday Mirchiru – but they’ve managed to pull together this fantastic jazz inflected EP that takes in blues, psychedelia and pop. The title track is the strongest cut, a wide-screen wander through the legacy of Jim Morrison, thanks in no small part to Jono McCleery’s vocal, but also the amazingly evocative music from the Heroes themselves. Liane Carroll lends a classic vocal lead on the upbeat “Shadowlands”, whereas Lucy Kitchen delves into the blues for “All This Time”. “Brandon Heights” closes the EP with a fusion-nodding instrumental. Plays from all the right quarters already, these guys could prove to be the new Zero 7.
