Sweden’s Plej follow 2003’s acclaimed album Electronic Music From The
Swedish Left Coast with a trailer for the long-awaited follow-up. It’s an
intoxicating slow-soul shimmy littered with strings, melodic piano, funk
guitar and ethereal efx, all joining forces to create something quite
original and magical. Then Mock & Toof, whose ‘Beat Up’ is a highlight of
the recent Weatherall mix album, steam in a space-disco cosmic surfboard,
thrusting forth a meaty bassline, disco keys and psychedelic guitar lines.
‘Freaks’ is main man Arvid’s tribute to his punk roots with shades of Men At
Work in the vocal. On the evidence of these two tunes the album should be
something of a mind-blower.
