A new label and a relatively new direction for The Herbaliser, taking advantage of their ability to funk for their lives. We had occasional hints of this leaning on the ‘Take London’ album three years back, but now they’re unashamedly going for it, with the help of Jessica Darling’s throaty vocal and a raucous brass section. With a memorable chorus and a sprightly beat there’s much to recommend this for a prime time slot, as all the pieces work – and sound completely authentic in the process. The album version is preferred, as the radio edit has a verse more obviously geared for the airwaves, diluting the effect a bit. However this all bodes well for new album ‘Same As It Ever Was’, due shortly.
