THE RUMBLE STRIPS
CARDBOARD COLOURED DREAMS EP
FALLOUT / ISLAND

The Rumble Strips are a four piece from Devon that have had a whirlwind of a year. After releasing a couple of singles with the excellent Transgressive Records, and touring with The Young Knives, The Zutons and Dirty Pretty Things, they landed a major deal with Fallout/Island Records, home to The Fratellis. ‘Cardboard Coloured Dreams EP’ is their debut on their new label, opening with ‘Oh Creole’, a song loaded with pop hooks and Atlantic brass, that sees singer Charlie Waller doing a blue eyed soul number, and landing centre stage between Dexy’s Midnight Runners and The Coral. ‘Born Bored’ is up next, a cute little ditty with a touch of rockabilly slap bass, and the theatrical ‘High Street Heaven’ & ‘Running Away’ bring the EP to a dramatic close. I much prefer the start to the finish.
