The Shortwave Set are a South London trio, that have spent the last 18 months holed up in a one bedroom flat, on a diet of supermarket lager & Bombay Mix, while they put together their debut album “In Your Debt”. Now what we’ve got here is three cuts from said album, on a limited edition 10”. “Is It Any Wonder” is a great catchy song with a sing-a-long chorus, built on a sumptuous slab of trip hop, complete with lush reversed strings & wobbly bits. “Figures Of ‘62” comes over like The Coral having a jolly up, & “In Your Debt” also has a touch of scouse about it, if you can imagine John Lennon getting it together with Alison Goldfrapp then you’re half way there. The Shortwave Set’s L.P. is due in May, watch this space.
