Can’t pin this one down and wouldn’t want to as this oddball East London duo fling themselves in the studio and vent forth an intoxicating hotpot of dirty funk, hallucinogenic dub and mashed old house music. ‘No Sleep Tonight’ heats up a funky bass shot with Public Enemy tension, Duane Eddy guitar twangs and even Ol’ Dirty’s ‘I Like It Raw’ to set the freewheeling scene. There’s two takes on ‘St John Street Dub’ – the first a surreal rocksteady jog, number two a stripped-down filth-house vamp somewhat recalling early 90s Leftfield/Sabres in steamy underground club mode. ‘Slumber Zirkus’ is grubby house. All making for something with its own, chaotic but highly-enjoyable agenda.
