‘Read & Burn 03′ sees the return of the UK’s original art punks Wire. ’23 Years Too Late’ gets us off to a fine moody & waggish start. ‘We sail through streets of smokeÉMassive attack and transfer prints’ observes Lewis in a foppish manner, leading to firing on all cylinders choruses, with Colin Newman belting it out on a psychedelic whim. ’23 Years Too Late’ would sit perfectly on Wire’s 1978 classic album ‘Chairs Missing’. ‘Our Time’ is up next, riding a low slung groove through a tunnel of revolving Hitchcock images. ‘No Warning Given’ lightens the mood, and ‘Desert Diving’ brings ‘Read & Burn 03’ to a suitably acid tongued finale. Wire are currently working on an all new full length album. Can’t wait.
