LISBON KID – LISBON KID – WALL OF SOUND

With impeccable timing, Lisbon Kid have released their debut album just as spring turns towards summer and thoughts drift towards the Mediterranean. The duo find the ideal balance between acoustic and electronic, and also through the wide variety of guests they employ to give their songs extra meaning. Sarah Cracknell is a good choice for the blissful murmurings of ‘We Look At The Stars’, a faster number, while Tony Bignell turns ‘Last Weekend’ into a laddish story but one rich with vivid imagery. Rui Veloso enjoys a quietly majestic vocal ‘At The End Of The Day’, Lisa Billson takes ‘Heading Home’ to the heights. Add the shimmering ‘Event Horizon’ with Hafdis Huld and the equally dreamy ‘Meco’ with Paula Rego and you have a winning recipe, capped by the sunrise moment of Dr Alan Watts narrating ‘Under The Rainbow’. With thoughts of Cafe Mambo and Cafe del Mar to the forefront, this is a long player to take with you as you head to warmer climes.
