Machinedrum has channelled his recently found happiness into a new album that brims with confidence, fresh rhythms and invention. The ‘Human Energy’ definitely comes from a recent move to California, not to mention a new relationship, and while his habit of cramming a lot of music into a small space continues it is now newly energised. Standout tracks are ‘Morphogene’, with its catchy vocal hook from Ruckazoid, the similarly catchy ‘Communicator’ and the slinky beats of ‘Angel Speak’, a contemporary chart sound mashed up with Machinedrum’s own sound and MeLo-X’s vocals. His own spectrum of colours comes out in ‘Spectrum Sequence’, the perfect illustration of an album that was clearly a lot of fun to make if just a bit too hyper at times!
