This latest Spanish release from Willy Sanjuan’s always-noteworthy label delivers another instantly familiar number up on a platter that’s sure to spark some greatly heated debates as to its musical integrity. For the record this is an update of Jimmy Sommerville and Bronski Beat’s ‘80s top ten smasharoony, ‘Smalltown Boy’. Actually, to be more exact it’s the musical bed from said tune messed about with slightly to give it a contemporary feel (in much the same Eric Prydz-way that many similar records have been treated in recent times). Punctuate it there in Willy Sanjuan’s instrumental version and it’s pretty respectable stuff. But Thomas Cajal goes a step further and adds a horrendous new song atop and that’s where things start slipping at a rapid rate of knots.
