The second remixed single from the label’s soon-to-be released 20th
Anniversary remix collection is a tribute to Young MC by Aaron Lacrate &
Debonair Samir. Marvin Young’s debut, ‘Stone Cold Rhymin” back in ’89,
might today sound like a children’s record, but back-in-the-day pop-rap
didn’t get much better and words per minute much faster then this. The
original Dust Brothers production created hooks that crossed over to the
masses not least thanks to a riff lifted from the ‘Theme From Shaft’. That
loop now gives way for tougher breaks created by Lacrate & Samir under their
Gutter guise which is backed by another of their Delicious Vinyl achieve
mixes – this time adding more beats, bounce and police sirens to Masta Ace
Inc’s fierce West Coast-styled jam ‘Jeep Ass Gutter’.
