MUMBAATA & LEO JANEIRO – TAKE OFF (D-EDGE)

The D Edge club in Sao Paolo is one of the leading lights for underground music in Brazil. They are soon to open a sister club in Rio and the label continues to go from strength to strength. Next up to put out their wares are Mumbaata & Leo Janerio, regulars at the club and big names in the scene locally.

Opening up the EP is Kunta Kinte, a top tribal tune with bobbling, fat drums and wonky synths that really get under your skin. It builds and builds and never lets up and is sure to sweep up the club. Take Off then gets more moody and reserved but is just as excellent for the way the synths are so finely crafted. The final cut here comes from German DJ, Marketing Director of Virgin Music Germany and Managing Director of Get Physical Music Roland Leekser who really flips the track into something totally different. Patient and slow burning but full of tension, it is dubby and tech-y and spiritual with its slick melodies and smooth chords. All in all then a killer EP.
