There is something traditional and rather appealing about this handsome package – and yet as a remix album it completely fulfils its brief. The original ‘Principe Del Norte’ was an excellent double pack of deepness – and the remixed model is cut from similar cloth, but builds on its subject matter really well. The remixers are well chosen, ranging from the dreamy, almost beatless offerings of The Orb to more pumped up efforts from I:Cube, Hieroglyphic Being and Ricardo Villalobos, whose hypnotic pair of percussive takes on ‘C’ are worth the price alone. Add in a few original versions from Thomas himself and you have that rare thing, a remix album that completely complements the original release, all the way down to the artwork!
