RICHARD H KIRK
FEAR [NO EVIL]
DUST SCIENCE

Something like 23 years ago I interviewed Richard when his group, Cabaret Voltaire, unleashed a major dance-floor assault with ‘The Crackdown’. It would still show some of today’s whippersnappers a thing or two, but meanwhile this welcome EP on Dust Science has appeared to show that Richard has still got the restless electronic urge to pile on the pressure and try new styles. The opening ‘Toned’ is a veritable kitchen sink barrage of bleeped-up, synth-slashed mayhem, bolstered by what sounds like much abuse of the drum machine. The next three – ‘Casa Ne Dada’, ‘BNZ’ and the title track explore different rhythms, from latin-flavoured to Martian line-dancing.
