ROLAND WRIGHTANGLE feat. DARCUS ‘In Your Blood’ (Z)

Lately Dave Lee, formerly known as Joey Negro amongst dozens of other aliases, announced that he’s got loads of original material coming up in 2022, a view we can’t ignore and are very happy about. Before the new year hopefully hits us with a better general life than 21, Mr.Lee delivers one more funky pearl which is worth a closer look. To be more precise it’s Roland Wrightangle’s ‘In Your Blood’ that gets the treatment of the Z head honcho himself. We are already used to a certain level of brilliance from Dave, but I must say this one must be one of the best tracks of the entire year, at least for the ones who love their sounds funky and groovy.

I don’t know when the Original has been made, but Dave’s Main Mix sounds like it’s been produced sometime between 1977 and 1979-the glory times of Philly Disco. So what you get is a powerful, yet soulful piece of Classic Disco with loads of strings, clavs and brilliant synth work. Darcus delivers an old school vocal, which also reminds me strongly on the time when Disco dominated dancefloors worldwide. As a friend of the Dub it’s a pleasure for me telling you it is amazing too. You still get some female chorus vox, but the music is able to stand out even more here. To make the pack a perfect one, Dave has hired the talents of Crazy P man Ron Basejam who doesn’t go a completely different way but points out the timeless brass a bit more on his remix. Greatness!
