BRYAN FERRY – AVONMORE: THE REMIXES – BMG

Here is that rare thing – a remix collection that remains faithful to the work of the main artist. Bryan Ferry has always been known as something of a nocturnal lounge lizard in the course of his solo career, and this selection propels him onto a slightly different dancefloor but with the same sense of style and glamour. Johnson Somerset and the Idjut Boys capture Ferry’s cool lounge style in the nocturnal house of their remixes, and with a reflective Driving Me Wild, Johnson Somerset is right on the money – as are the Idjut Boys in their stellar version of ‘Midnight Train’. Leo Zero are pretty cool on ‘Loop Di Li’ but it’s Ray Mang who really gets the toes tapping and arms raising. Prins Thomas conjures up a lovely rippling effect on the hypnotic version of Avonmore, while a bonus track at the end of this substantial album offers Ulrich Schnauss in a remix of the Ferry and Todd Terje collaboration ‘Johnny & Mary’, bringing us neatly full circle. A very desirable package.
