S-Express ‘Theme From S-Express Remixed’ (HOT CREATIONS)

I’m always a bit curious when one of my all time fave records gets ultimate remix pack, often not the first time. Mark Moore’s late 80s Acid House monster that topped the UK chart by its first release was of course a defining record, cleverly mashing up a timeless Rose Royce sample from ‘Is It Love You’re After’ with Acid bleeps and pumping House beats. It is regarded as a House Classic and that’s what it simply is. Some remix packs throughout the years followed, I remember a decent take from Aquarius a decade or so ago, but there hasn’t been a version you really can play aside the timeless Original until yet. Now there are three of them actually as Germany’s finest offering, Tuff City Kids aka Philip Lauer and Gerd Janson deliver a clever driving Main Mix, that keeps some of the Original Acid elements while adding their trademark Detroit esque beats and anthemic pianos to give the track a totally different peaky direction. Even preferable is their Dub, which is more stripped back by keeping away the pianos which results in a serious Acid House bomb with some very well known sources. To round things off, Detlef comes up something like an update of the Original for the here and now, driving polished up beats ride along the Rose Royce sample with the addition of a rather serious bassline. All in all this is the first really necessary remix pack of one of the greatest tracks ever and another sure shot for Hot Creations.
