Walking In Harlem EP
Hysterical

This bunch have been responsible for some of the most vibrant tackle to blasst out of 2009 [’Circus’, ’Rose Rouge’, etc]. Now they place a huge lid on their brilliant year with a stellar EP which, as ever, manages to reference past musical strains with the sound of the future. The title track sees them team up with none other than DJ Sneak, one of the true giants of house music. Together they first cook up a sizzling slab of acid funk recalling Hardkiss or Josh Wink’s 90s classics, synths and acid snapping while it builds to the entry of Cotton Club brass, like they just bust in on an after-hours party in full swing. Sneak’s own mix cooks up the expected house vamp which is tailor-made for the brass, The flip’s ‘Vega’ sees Ian Pooley joining the fray for a gorgeous deep techno space-cruise, made all the more compulsive courtesy of the tribal, wanking stick insect percussion. Pooley’s own mix is an atmospheric beauty making great use of vocal bites and extra-terrestrial melodies. Could be monstrous over the Christmas season [and I shall certainly be playing on Monday night fnoob.com radio show between 9-11pm!].
