Silicon Soul’s double-D operation has certainly uplifted a few this year and now start 2009 in fine style with a trailer for Jet Project’s upcoming Head In The Clouds album which is nothing short of stunning: guaranteed to blow the y-fronts off a gnu at 100 yards. Jet Project are Northern Ireland’s Timmy Stewart and John McIver, residents at Belfast’s Shine and Stiff Kitten who have made sure it’s thoroughly road-tested first, Weatherall and Slam also already reportedly causing mass destruction with its intricately-executed brand of sonic mischief. The title track starts innocently enough with a no-nonsense groove before the first drop when up from the deep rise a set of metallic trouser-riffs which then commence carnage, heightened further by another drop where battering percussion joins the fray. ‘Cribwalk’ gets under way with curious gargling hippo sound under the groove which ushers in floaring voice loop, low-flying Basic Channel riffage and twinkling electro flutters. ‘Proper Order’ is the proper head-fuck, starting life as a percolating bubbler with 808 cowbell sparks before all manner of woozy bends and peaking sound-waves build into a barrage of surreal, nightmare crescendos. The drop is wobbly in the extreme. That album could well be one of next year’s bollock-blasters supreme.
