The prospect of a fresh new missive on Francois K’s Wave Music is always enough to get me pogoing on the spot like a terrier with a four foot todger, especially with Berlin-based DJ-producer Tony’s name on it, but he’s excelled himself with this latest, startlingly brilliant four-tracker. ‘Anger’ percolates in Derrick May style with strings then kicking up a real Detroit-flavoured storm, before the title track’s deep pads and shimmering corset cook up the atmosphere. ‘The Prophet’ returns to the Motor City on a ‘French Kiss’ motorboat as Mayday stabs and UR swirls are wielded and moulded with Tony’s deft and deadly sense of dynamics. ‘Music’ whips a Nu Groove ice riff over skittering deep groove. Techno, house, who cares? The man’s an electronic giant.
