One of the most promising names to emerge last year had to hail from the loins of Soma, who many agree carried off the Label Of The Year award. This gem trailers the upcoming ‘Incommunicado’ album and shows that he’s already progressing by breaking away from sparse and futuristic glitchiness into the realms of song structure adorned by his own vocals. Smoke-stack lightning is immediately launched as the deep, soulful melodies caress a rotund groove splattered with electro twitters and the extra dimension of the mournful vocals. Alex goes back to more familiar terrain on his own dub mix. Extra track ‘Telemetry’ is bass-heavy, atmospheric and dreamy with growing swirls of Moroder-esque synth melodies. It’s an old cliche but this is an album I really can’t wait for.
