‘The Cost’ brings together four very fine Black Dog tracks for public
consumption. ‘Cost I’ and ‘Cost II’ complement each other well – the first
strangely offbeat, pitting a faster treble loop against an odd set of
harmonies, while the second is more warmly Balearic. ‘The Actor And
Audience’ is nervy and hyperactive, moving around a lot as a fast rhythm
tries to settle amongst passing sequences, while ‘Sharp Shooting On Saturn’
kicks in with a broken beat before dropping the bass, the texture airy up
top. More synthesized excellence recovered by Soma, sure to be lapped up by
fans.
