FERGIE
KEN THE MEN EP’
PUNCHFUNK

Fergie has emerged as a much-needed character in dance music. Large, loud and bent on inciting the dancefloor to a similar level of excitement as himself. Last year’s twelves were unashamed bombs and his latest is also built for sweaty mayhem. The original builds on a cranium-crunching stomp, employing mixing  trickery, efx and counter-riffs to ram home its whoopee. Definite echoes of the 90s era when techno got blissfully mad but retained some meausure of intellect. Next Fergie mixes himself, peeling off to reveal a fetching pair of bulgatron turbo-briefs and throwing in an epic drop which brings back military snares and the ever-reliable soaring whoosh. If that isn’t enough, Tolfrey & Sylvester come in with a low-slung, minimal rumbler which adds pacman chattering and odd, unsettling flavours. Great stuff.
