You’re probably groaning ‘Oh no not again’ and quite right too. Derrick May’s all-time classic has been severely tampered with over the years but now someone has come along to plug into the true soul of the track and make something totally startling and fresh. Francesco is is a gifted pianist and has taken that immortal riff and, after a long scene-setting intro, simply pumps it for all its worth with no other additives. It’s an amazing piece of music but will also be an incendiary DJ tool. It’s already got the seal of approval from Derrick May himself. If that wasn’t enough, the mighty Kiki from BPitch Control stretches it out and adds his minimal magic mainly courtesy of a relentless woodblock and elements of another anthem called ‘Sueno Latino’. Apparat goes deeper with funk and glitch flavours, providing another different backdrop for that heart-stopping riff. it’s the first release on Agoria’s new label. What a start!
