Minus

This isn’t just Techno Single of The Week because Minus still send out delicious vinyl promos [although obviously it helps!]. Gaiser’s follow-up to last year’s amazing ‘Neural Block’ EP is one of the most startling electronic sets to emerge in this  massively-creative year, taking the well-trodden minimal vehicle into uncharted territories often closer to avant garde explorations. At the same time, the intricately-deadly drum programming and whale-testicle bass wallops ensure dancefloor destruction.

The title cut shows why the man could be considered the David Lynch of Techno as unsettling atmospheres are constructed over the thumping groove using the unearthly desert wind moan effect to gradually take over. The ghostly melodies on ‘Chlorine’ recall the great Moondog before ‘Sightblotch’

manages to mate pig-scrotum grunts with 50s sci-fi movie hover-melodies.
‘Wet Contents’ sets up more surreal riff-shadows over itchy future-funk rumblings, ‘Out Of Sort’ says it with merciless percussion patterns while ‘Withdrawal’ closes the hatch with robo-voice bemoaning ‘I know that you were planning to disconnect me’ over more alien textures and haunted undergrowth skitterings. With a parallel dimension vibe totally his own, Gaiser is now one of electronic music’s most exciting innovators.
