Norman ‘Solee’ Flaskamp parked his Parquet label squarely on the techno map with last year’s ‘Timba’ single and now returns with a bulging pair of turbo-shorts destined to do further damage. ‘Timbabwe’ mounts a lowslung thumper of a groove counter-acted by thigh-slapping voles and fizzing, floaty textures – all driven by a behemoth mutation of the trusty ‘French Kiss’ riff. ‘Open Air’ is, unusually, in ¾ time but topped with Solee’s trademark web of synths and pads building to a luminous peak. Remix comes from Marascia [previously heard on Boxer and Gigolo], who turns in a startling 12 minute epic recalling the Frankfurt-Cologne ambient-to-having it excursions of the last decade. Well-rounded package which will up the label’s ante to greater heights.
