With gift-from-the-gods delirium, Emetic’s genius leader Martyn Hare and Turning Point’s fast-rising jack-meister Jamie Ball have teamed up and called themselves Hareball for the the label’s 12th release. I’ve been saying it since his maiden voyage – Martyn Hare is dangerous, with a brutal jack-sensitivity up there with the greats. Combined with Jamie, whose own rework of ‘Differ’ is simply manipulation of the drum machine as a deadly weapon, there is reason for crash helmets and goggles. The original is basically just a booming analogue drum barrage plus scrapey riffs. Martyn’s own remix adds sexed-up female and demented riffage. These two are hammering out a style of techno which is tougher than most else on the block – and truer to its real roots. And it’s on vinyl!
