Top marks to Soma for not resting on its illustrious laurels and giving new talent a shot while also encouraging and nurturing an obviously thriving techno community in their home city of Glasgow. Latest up from the Sons of the Sub is Harvey McKay, making his debut with a pair of dancefloor-seducing beauties. The great thing about these new singings is how each already has a signature sound by injecting their own personalities and visions into the music rather than copying existing styles. The title cut starts as a cool melodic floater before upping gear via rattling percussion and stabs. ‘Xyphoid’ again demonstrates his skill in weaving percussive elements to push further the music hovering above in an imaginative swirl of patterns and bell-end waving hippos. A fantastic maiden voyage ramming another gem into the Soma family jewels.
