It’s got a point with Mixtape where just the label name means guaranteed carnage with crash helmet and reinforced cod-piece sometimes a necessary accessory. Chicago-born now Minnesota-relocated Jerome knows how to jack, having already distinguished himself as DJ Boris, Lord Damien and Dorian Baker on labels including the mighty relief, Ferris Wheel and Creation Rebel. He disappeared for a bit, only to roar back, first on Relief then others including the very fortunate Mixtape. This is merciless tackle, ‘You’ve Got To Move’ stomping all before it with booming groove pillage and sexy robo-female vocals. Stall set, ‘Not A Game’ charges into Stay Up Forever turbo-kek territory before the dense juggernaut and hippo scrotum bass heaves of ‘Dancefloor Destroya’ and, finally, an all-out acid blowout on the wonderfully Phuture-recalling ‘Escape The Darkness’. Hard Chicago-style techno of a sort heard too rarely these days.
