Kirk Degiorgio
Isomer Shift EP
B12

Kirk emerged as one of the UK’s finest purveyors of pure techno nearly two decades ago so it comes as a soul-lifting blast to hear him steam in with four tracks of such undiluted quality which, ultimately, ram home every reason we got into the music in the first place. The title track careers forth like classic UR aboard the same starship as Carl Craig, with mid-90s Beltram waving from the riff foundry below. Swooping, searing, climactic and packed with Kirk’s trademark dextrous twists. ‘Isadora’ booms up the groove to unleash dense, organic textures while ‘Pugnaxian Wisdom’ throbs into acidic waters infested with deep, gorgeous melodies. Maybe best of all is the closing ‘Traverse’, a towering work of astounding reach and beauty, recalling the classic Detroit sound but also the way the UK worked their own techno-scapes like unleashed sonic greyhounds, here ending as a eulogy to the Silver Surfer’s glistening cod-piece. Ultimately timeless and spine-chillingly gorgeous.
