Rapidly building a reputation on the London techno scene with his explosive live sets, 25-year-old Kode now translates the buzz onto vinyl with four tracks of steaming invention on Swedish techno-meister Hertz’s new label. His style is hard, funky and built for dancefloor demolition. ‘Funka’ plants Detroit stabs over a racey, bongo-splattered turbo-groove. ‘Rolla’ manages to bring jazz and sinister riff elements over locomotive killer snares. The Hertz re-edit of ‘Killa’ appears to utilise a Derek and Clive wanking sample over the pummelling trickery below. Finally, ‘Bulla’ is a stark, jerky pounder topped at one point by Bambaataa’s ‘Renegades Of Funk’ chant. Frighteningly good for a first outing.
