Having played an inestimable part in developing the minimal blueprint now heard all over the world, Richie Hawtin’s long-running Plus 8 label – next year celebrating its 20th – moves on again with this voluptuous new four-tracker from Paco. ‘Party In Chicago’ is a no-holds-barred keck-detonator, building layers of synth action, including sci-fi wibbling, ejaculating Dalek and this great electronic golden shower effect. Kind of like the early 90s roof-raising revisited and updated, big drops back in. ‘Looking For [v2]’ goes in percussion-splattered and spaced, tickling the water buffalo’s underbelly before an escalating explosion out of the rear end results in further sonic carnage. ‘My Friend’ sets up a resolute internal momentum with intricate snare and bottomless drones building the subterranean vibe, eventually dominated by the fearsome drums. ‘What’s Up’ lashes a meaty bassline with vocal cut-ups, completing a veritable titan of a release.
