He’s no stranger to off kilter rhythms, remember Red Snapper, The Sandals, The Aloof, Sabres Of Paradise & countless others, well they were all driven by the sometimes frantic, sometimes out there, but overall very funky, drumming of Rich “Dickie” Thair. “The Parrotman” is his first outing as a solo artist, (don’t worry, the Toob Army is strong), & it doesn’t disappoint at all. As you’d expect, the ducking ‘n’ diving percussion takes the lead, working it’s way around a pounding 4/4 kick, while an unfriendly synth gets lairy with stroppy stabs & riffs. On the flip the breakbeat don Rennie Pilgrim does his stuff, rolling with a slight 70’s car chase vibe. Recommended.
