Back in 1990, Tricky Disco was one of the first acid house tunes to hit the charts, setting the fledgling Warp records on track in the process. It was created by Michael Wells and Lee Newman, two of our early global techno ambassadors. When Lee died of cancer in 1995 it was a sad loss, so it’s great to see the track bounce back, adapting perfectly to a pair of 2007 treatments by Germany’s Lutzenkirche, who plants the vocals over throbbing electro-tech, and the Martin Brothers ripping it up with a minimal tech-house monster. Lee’s irrepressible spirit lives on in these great versions.
