Welcome return for Jochem Paap aka Speedy J, one of techno’s great innovators since bursting into the world in the early 90s on Plus 8. Electric Deluxe is his new digital-only project which, thankfully, looks likely to emerge on vinyl via Plus 8. That would be useful as then everybody could witness his latest startling sonic explorations, the titkle track setting up a shadowy metallic pulse lashed in breathy ambience and ghostly textures. Even better is ‘Bootes’ which builds over gentle pattering into a devastating soundscape of drones and atmospheric washes. Still out front as ever.
