Ever since he first burst into the techno world in 1991 as Exit 100, Thomas Heckmann has rode the electronic waves with a string of immortal guises including Age, Purple Plejade, Drax, Silent Breed and many under his own name. He’s appeared on all the labels you love and respect, as well as his own A.F.U., so it came as little surprise to find him popping up on the hugely-happening Bpitch Control. It’s a towering EP, leading off with the hypnotic prowl of ‘Tangents’, which uses a banjo/sci-fi riff sequence to set up a delicious internal momentum into the dark recesses. ‘Medusa’ is a jacking, propulsive stomper with ringing riffs before ‘Strobe’ dives deeper, a subterranean bubbler with echoes of past glories sparkling beneath the drone-like frequencies. Masterful stuff.
