A buzz has been building around ’25 Bitches’ since last autumn when it started being hammered to deadly effect by Richie Hawtin and the Minus crew. Now the record that started of as a laugh appears with two twelves of mixes. Troy’s original is an easy, sleazy thumper plastered in mangled vocal acrobatics cushioned by warm, swelling sub-bass. Then the remixes. Detroit’s Berg Nixon does two: the first takes the druggy dub road, while his funky ZigZag Mix boasts twittering squelches and acid woodpeckers amidst melon-friendly wibbly wobbly. Berlin’s Matt John spaces out with a Frankfurt ’92-style clonk-pulse. The second disc kicks off with a monster by Gaiser, who injects juggernaut new bassline, translates the vocal into Phuture and turns the pressure valve upwards. Marc Houle weighs in with an untypically aggressive fast and urgent treatment before Heartthrob brings it down to a tastily resonant bass surge with cheeky new riff. Titanic all-rounder.
