TIM PRESLEY – THE WINK – DRAG CITY

Tim Presley is an intriguing character, a singer – songwriter who is definitely off the wall, but who keeps his emotions close to the listener too. Most recently he collaborated with Cate Le Bon as DRINKS, and they produced a highly enjoyable album ‘Hermits On Holiday’. Le Bon is heavily involved here, which explains the typically spiky guitar heard on ‘Underwater Rain’, where Presley’s brilliant depictions of the rain through percussion instruments are worth the outlay on the record alone. Elsewhere a wrought vocal for ‘Kerouac’ is accompanied by an oscillating keyboard line, while ‘ER’ ends up like a distorted apparition of a fairground. This is pop music with a difference, and a sense of subtle humour too.
