Kitsuné showcases have in the past thrown up some really good and dance, and as the label looks to go back to its first principles this ‘Parisien’ compilation has unearthed some gems. Its new logo is said by co-founder Gildas Loaëc to represent a more modern and progressive outlook, and it’s hard to argue with that on the strength of tracks like Monterosso’s ‘Aimants’, a class piece of with a sharp edge to the undercarriage, or the robotic but charming ‘Great Escape’ of . French electronic music can sound delightfully wistful in the hands of artists like Sirocco, who delivers a treasure with ‘L Vérité’, and also with the bright guitar work of Amarula Café Club’s ‘Low’. GABRIEL’s ‘I Wanna Ahah!’ is an excellent track, while ‘Paris’ shimmers in the thanks to Cheb Miaou and vocalist Jones. Highly recommended if you want to add a few good new, modern pieces of electro-pop to your arsenal.
