VARIOUS ARTISTS – TOO SLOW TO DISCO VOLUME 3 COMPILED BY DJ SUPERMARKT – HOW DO YOU ARE?

The third volume of DJ Supermarkt’s implausibly titled series continues its crate digging exploits on the West Coast, with predictably sunny results. This is breezy music that lifts the mood pretty much immediately, an antidote to all the news coverage of late! Contrary to its title some of the music can in fact be danced to – I’m sure it’s not possible to stay seated during Archie James Cavanaugh’s breezy ‘Take It Easy’. There is lots of sun, sea and sax here, together with many a cool keyboard line and some inspired lyrics, such as Pratt & McClain’s ‘Whachersign’. Once again we celebrate the yacht rock style of the 1970s in the company of unlikely sources such as Grateful Dead, whose ‘Shakedown Street’, a big surprise, took no less than four years to licence! Other winners are from Lee Ritenour (‘Is It You?’) and Steely Dan band man Cornelius Bumpus, whose quartet shine with ‘Inside You’. This compilation is more about a shared feeling than picking out single tracks though, and it all meets the same sun kissed high. Blissful poolside listening – and dancing if you dare!
