Trainspotting with Jay Shepheard

Just in is this chart from Egg London Birthday Guest, Jay Shepheard, who plays the Egg London Birthday Weekend on Saturday May 6th alongside Green Velvet, Enrico Sanguiliano, Tobi Neumann, Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Alex Bau, Margot, The Nextmen, Mark Moore (S-Express), Zaki and resident DJs Kyle E, Ireen Amnes and The Willers Brothers.

Body Music “Just One” (Razor N Tape)

Razor N Tape killing it as usual with this house tempo bomb from Body Music, all the mixes on this 12″ are great but the A1 cut with its guitar and vocal hooks does it for me.

D’Julz –  “Organi”  (Politics Of Dancing)

Proper deep house business from the Frenchman on POD. Skippy retro hats and bass drive the track with the classic organ hook ties it up. Dead playable in any set.

Pluto “Show Me Your Love”  (Manuscript Limited Ukraine)

As the promo text for this EP states the object is to showcase forgotten gems from the back catalogues of seminal artists, and this track here on the B2 does exactly that. Deeper Than Deep is the EP title, this one pretty much sums that up!

Manichi “Cascais”  (Manichi)

Functional tech house in the best sense from Manichi on instalment two of the self titled label project. All tracks do the business but the A1 is the the pick for me, vintage/modern crossover sound with a good balance of melody and straight groove.

Jay Shepheard “The Hot Button”  (Nothing Is Real)

A new one from yours truly on the upcoming Heat EP with Nothing Is Real, a brand new sister label to Rebirth. Exploring the more ‘minimal’ side of my productions this one appears on the A2 and I’ve been playing this in my own sets for the best part of a year and I’m still always reaching for it.

Roadman “The Wall”  (Tact)

Deep techno and house here on Tact and I’ve been following this guys stuff lately. Bulbous kicks and intricate pads make for interesting listening on and off the dance floor.

Mandar “Lawd Back”  (Oscilate Music)

I could have picked a lot of tracks from the recent album from Mandar on Oscillate as essentially the whole thing is great. Its 5 x12″ to make sure almost all tracks get a full side cut. Intelligent grooves and interesting production.

Cassino Times “Carlotta” Al Zanders Remix  (Wolf)

One of the better Wolf releases of late IMO – a dreamy repetitive groove with a slight Balearic feel. Slots nicely between ‘bigger’ tunes.

Brawther “Visions”  (Cabinet)

Stripped back tech house from Brawther here on the Cabinet label from Germany. Quite a departure from what he usually produces – but deadly effective simplicity and great production as usual.

AXEL BOMAN “Geeks” Barnbarn Sweden

An epic excursion here from the friendly Swede on his new Studio Bahnhus off shoot. At a leisurely tempo over eight and a half minutes the track morphs between two concepts of syncopated percussion. On the B side he gets a bit darker with Voodoo, a jacking, lo-fi and druggie affair also worth its salt.

Jay Shepheard joins Green Velvet, Enrico Sanguiliano, Tobi Neumann, Daniel Miller (Mute Records), Alex Bau, Margot, The Nextmen, Mark Moore (S-Express) and resident DJs Kyle E, Ireen Amnes and The Willers Brothers for the Egg London Birthday Saturday May 6th. All info at www.egglondon.co.uk
