A massive producer for 2012. Switzerland’s finest in the house

Over at the DMC HQ we just know when someone is going to an absolute superstar. The past few years has seen some incredible producers and DJs explode onto the global scene who we just know have the innovation, creativity and that little pinch of something special which is going to mean they are going to be here for a very long time.

If 2011 was the year of Avicii, we are tipping Avesta to be one of the top tips for 2012. You heard it here first. Hold on tight, this guy is Berning up!!

Words Dan Prince

Farshid, welcome to the DMCWORLD. You have said that the moment you stepped into a club for the first time there was only one thing you were interested in – making music. You felt that you were the one who “was destined to take the crowd into one long trip”. So, how do you think you are doing so far?

“Hey Dan, thanks for having me. That is correct and you know what, it hasn’t changed since then. Music inspires me every day, whether listening to it or making it. I try to transfer the feelings I get while producing directly to the crowd while spinning. There comes a moment where I know that the people in front of me are exactly feeling the same way I did while making a certain track. These are the magical moments I’m after.”

A brilliant new tune doing serious damage everywhere – how did it feel when you heard that your label boss Tiësto opened his set at The Globen Arena in Stockholm with your piece of magic?

“Oh yes, the new ‘ID’ tune! Well after such a compliment I guess I can tell you the real name now. The track is called ‘Arena’ and will be out soon on Tiësto’s label, Musical Freedom. It was funny to see my new ‘ID’ being played at The Globen Arena, as the track’s name was already written in the title of the Youtube videos! It was a great hearing that Tiësto loved the track. He also introduced his NYE set with it and played it several other times like in his live stream concert. It’s quite a satisfaction for me as a producer, knowing that my work is being supported by such an icon, and of course a reason to keep going!”

We bet. So, talk us through the new tune…

“The track is divided into two parts. The breakdown has this anthemic piano melody which is leading into a raw and heavy bassline mixed up with some heavy beats. And most important, it has this arena feeling. You would have to hear it on a proper sound system at least once to figure it out!”

How does it feel when everyone is saying you are the producer of 2012 that everyone should be watching out for?

“It feels great and I’m flattered to hear this. It puts a good amount of pressure on me, but in a positive way. I‘m ready for this challenge. You will hear a lot of new tracks and remixes from me in 2012. Nothing happens by chance. It’s hard work and I am here to stay”

What is the current top 10 you are spinning?

Avesta – Arena (Original Mix)

Tiësto – Maximal Crazy (Original Mix)

Ivan Gough & Feenixpawl feat. Georgi Kay – In My Mind (Axwell Mix)

Nicky Romero – Generation 303 (Original Mix)

Dada Life – Kick Out The Epic Motherf__ker (Original Mix)

Aaron Smith feat. Luvli – Dancin (Laidback Luke Remix)

Hardwell – Spaceman (Original Mix)

Avesta & B Valley – Dutchano (Laidback Luke Edit)

Bingo Players – Mode (Original Mix)

Otto Knows – Million Voices (Original Mix)

Your records through Spinnin’ Records and Mixmash have gained support from the likes of Laidback Luke, David Guetta, Hardwell, Morillo and of course Tiësto – who are your all-time DJ heroes?

“It’s an honor for me to know that some of the best artists are giving me their support. I want to thank all of them. My favourite DJ is Laidback Luke who has been supporting me since day one. He is so skilled on the decks and everything looks so easy when he’s spinning. As for my favourite producers, they would be Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso. They continuously deliver quality tracks since years. But of course there are many brilliant artists out there and I will do my best to be amongst them.”

How would you describe your style?

“My style is a mixture between big room house sounds, anthemic break parts and energetic, raw almost techno oriented drops. I love it when two totally different parts of one unity collide. It creates an unexpected and fresh experience. It’s like the Beauty & The Beast coming together!”

Did you have any help learning to DJ and produce?

“No I didn’t. I learned everything by myself, which has a particularly positive effect on the way I DJ and produce. Today it’s a natural thing for me to stay original and innovative because of that.

How did your management deal happen?

“It was a natural thing. We met a couple of times, discussed my music and stuff. As I knew that I was going to do this for a long time and didn’t have a person taking care of everything non music related, we decided to team up.”

Tell us about your studio set up?

“Basically it’s just my laptop and standard headphones. When I want to compose more complex melodies I hit my friend’s studio. B Valley is talented composer and producer as well. There we have some more equipment. Yes, even a midi keyboard!”

What was your favorite tune of 2011?

“Arty – Around The World (Original Mix).”

What is the best club you have ever DJ’d at?

“The Kaufleuten Klub in Zurich.”

What did your family think of your choice of career?

“My mom always supported even though she never understood why I was spending so much time in front of my laptop in the beginning. She wasn’t aware of music programmes, virtual instruments and stuff like that.”

What is the finest record you have ever played to a dancefloor?

“Edward’s World – Soul Roots (Pianohouse Mix). It’s such a classic house track.”

And finally, what is next from the mighty Avesta studio?

“There is a follow up to my track ‘Dutchano’ coming out later this year on Mixmash Records, it’s called ‘Rollin’. Here’s a first preview: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ekToW8UjbLI

I also did a remix for Yves Larock which should be out really soon on his label. And currently I’m working on a follow up to ‘Arena’. Besides that I’ve a lot of unfinished projects. So be prepared for many tracks to be released this year!”
