Moguai

Interview by Dan Prince

The punk rocker of techno! Welcome back to DMCWORLD…where on planet earth are you today?

Hi guys, right now I’m back in Berlin in my studio working on some new music

The best piece of new music you have heard today since rolling out of bed?

Bob Marley – Positive Vibration (Live at Santa Barbara County)

A really exciting time for you right now with the release of your brand new single ‘Tinhauser’ swinging our way on Spinnin’ Deep, please talk us through the sound and history of the track…you discovered the sample whilst in Asia…

Yes that’s right! I already played this year 2 Asia tours and on my last one, I heard  a classical track on the radio in Tokyo with the horn/bass lead, I later used for my new single Tinhauser. Immediately I felt in love with that lead line so I shazamed the artist and track name and my management got in contact with their management. Luckily they were very open to give me their OK to use the original sample material and to produce a new song with it

You are celebrating 20 years in the industry this year. What are some of the things you would love to tell a young André Tegeler that you have learnt from two decades making music…?

OMG, I could tell him a lot, but I make it short and I think the most important learning is : never, never, never give up and accept never a NO!

The cool passion for many DJs these days is food and cooking. Seth, Kölsch, Sneak, Sven amongst many others have restaurants and chef backgrounds. Your connection with food of course comes from your family butchers history. What are your kitchen skills like these days, a signature dish?

Wow, I’m impressed that you know I’m a qualified butcher. For sure because of that, I`m very good in preparing and cooking all kinds of meat. But my signature is spaghetti bolognese

Who are some of the producers out there at the moment who excite you musically?

Madison Mars, Redondo, Camelphat and Tchami

What are the 5 big tunes in your box this weekend…

MOGUAI vs Younotus – The Dance
It’ll be my next single with the boys from Younotus. It’s deep, groovy and very atmospheric
Esquire – Blackwater
Love the vibe and easy production style. Works in smaller venues and bigger clubs!
La Fuente – Capitol
Awesome oldskool rave monster! Not the biggest fan of the vocals, but the drop is killer
M83 – Midnight City vs Paris (Nick Davy & Whaler Mashup)
Great mashup from 2 of my fav records
Matthew Heyer – Fire (Gunjah Remix)
Awesome Remix job from my mate Gunjah! The FX break and drop is ace!

An up and coming producer to watch out for in 2017…

Younotus

What is the last…

Great film you saw

Iron Fist (series on Netflix)

Album you checked

Chainsmokers – Memories…Do not open

Time you cried

When I read this

Musician you met who you love

It’s weird but it was HP from Scooter. He’s a great guy!

Parookaville/ Germany 17758570_10155238119096383_1431501250215137493_o

What would you say is your best festival moment ever?

When I had the honour to be one of a few DJs who played the closing from the very last Love Parade in Berlin in front of 750.000 people. That was just incredible!!

And finally, what is coming out next from you studio wise?

Next single will be with my boys from Younotus and it’s called “the dance”
