Boom! Two times DMC World Champion brings us his essential weekend tunes…
” I played the 10 year anniversary party of Connectbeats in Connecticut. Much love to NEB and all the folks who came out and got wild.
I also saw the theater production Sleep No More. On the real, this was one of the most unique and engaging entertainment experience of my life. Immersive theater. If you find yourself in NYC, I highly recommend checking it out: http://sleepnomorenyc.com/
THE PICKS
Distal – Boss Of The South (Sinden Remix)
Being boss of the south must be nice, all that power and access to BBQ. If I was boss of the south, I’d run a mafia-like regime in which all my men on the ground paid me in pulled pork. I’m barely the boss of my own apartment. Sinden here takes on the boss and comes out with a deep techno rump shaker.
Excision – Execute
Executions are wrong, but I dig the bounce on this one. The ambient intro allows it to function as a BPM transition tool too. Heavy business with a hip hop feel. Heavy D and the Fat Boys would be proud.
The Juan MacLean – Everybody Get Close
Funk alert! This song makes me want to change my whole wardrobe, grow a jew fro and start hanging out at discotechs. Currently I hang out primarily at delis.
Kastle – You Know That I Know You Know
Put this baby on my Mishka Keep Watch mix (link here: http://soundcloud.com/bloglin/presents-keep-watch-vol-xxiii), because it totally rules. You know that I know you know it rules. I know that you know that I know you know that you know that I know you know it rules. You know that I know you know that I know that you know that…watch out for this track on Kastle’s next EP dropping in November on Silverback Recordings.
Kendrick Lamar – Hol’ Up
I stay sleeping on new hip hop, because frankly it’s been a while since a wave of new hip hop has made me stay awake. The times could be a changing. Kendrick Lamar is worth the hype. He’s got flow, wit, and a dope voice. In this track, he uses my favorite vegetable that makes your pee smell funny (asparagus) in a felatio metaphor.
Labrinth ft. Tinie Tempah – Earthquake (Noisia Remix)
Jumping jeshosephats! (yes, I had to look up the spelling of jeshosephats on google. This is not a word I know off hand. Like, if someone asked me how to spell jeshosephats, I would not snort and retort, ‘what!?!?!? you don’t know how to spell jeshosephats?!?!? What are you some kind of MORON!?!?! Geeez!’) This track is simply gigantic. My goodness.
Sinjin Hawke – Love Is On Your Side
Sinjin Hawke got game like Melo. I’m a Knicks fan, so this is a huge compliment. Chopped up R&B vocals seem to get me every time. Shiftee is to chopped up R&B vocals as 50 Cent’s fat kid is to cake.
Sully – Let You
Darkness. This song creeps me out a little bit. If this was the theme music to Are You Afraid Of The Dark?, I would have peed my pants even more as a child. There are no ghouls or vampries in the music, but I’m pretty sure this is what they listen to at their abandoned warehouse raves.
TRC – Main Number
TRC’s free The Leak EP has a lot of fresh jammies on it. It’s like a sleeping 5 year old whose parents just iced him out at Kids Gap with new pajamas. Main Number is a neck snapper, aged individuals be advised. My baby making music pick of the week.
Uzimon – Champion Sound
The song is dope. The video is batshit crazy ridiculous. No more words, just watch, watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zf_RBJ98uvY
